St. Ursula Academy Legacy Continues with New President and Principal
St. Ursula Academy will open its 156th school year with a new president and new principal at the helm, carrying on the school’s legacy of excellence in education. Sister Mary Kay Homan, OP, will become the fourth president of the Academy, and Mrs. Kimberly A. Sofo will become the new principal.
Following a national search, the school board has hired Sister Mary Kay Homan, OP, (right) as the new president of St. Ursula Academy. Sister Mary Kay is currently in leadership as a member of the General Council of the Adrian Dominican Sisters. Prior experience includes several terms as school principal in Michigan and West Virginia and seven years as director of planned giving for the Adrian Dominican Office of Development. She holds a Certificate of Advanced Education Study (CAES) in Catholic School Administration from Boston College and master’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst (school administration) and University of Oklahoma (Mathematics). She is active on three private school boards and brings wonderful fund-raising experience to St. Ursula. Sister Mary Kay looks forward to joining the school community stating, “St. Ursula Academy has a well-respected and excellent academic program. It is an honor to join the school in this next chapter in its long and rich history."
Kimberly A. Sofo (left) will become the school’s new principal. Mrs. Sofo’s professional career in education has spanned twelve years in a range of positions including principal, assistant principal and six years as a teacher, at three different Toledo Public Schools. Mrs. Sofo earned her master’s degree in administration and supervision, and her bachelor’s degree in Arts and Science from the University of Toledo. She has administrative licensure for grades K-12 and teaching licensure for grades 1-8.
Mrs. Sofo expressed, “I am looking forward to being a part of St. Ursula Academy. I am very excited about the opportunity to be involved in a culture that fosters the spirit of St. Angela and empowers young women through education.”
“We are very pleased about the experience and energy that these two women bring to their positions,” said SUA Board Chair, Scott Savage. “We know that St. Ursula’s commitment to helping young women develop their spiritual, intellectual, physical, and emotional well-being will continue as we welcome these wonderful women,” added Jane Charette, retiring SUA President.
